Local history

Minnesota Discovery Center
Formerly known as Ironworld, MDC is the museum of the Iron Range. It has produced award-winning exhibits and houses a professional archives known for its genealogical resources.
Iron Range Historical Society
This all-volunteer organization has an office in McKinley open from 10:00 until 2:00 on Monday (including federal holidays) and Tuesdays.

Regional history

University of Minnesota Duluth Archives and Special Collections

Housed at UMD's Kathryn A. Martin Library, Archives and Special Collections contains the university archives,  subject and biographical files for northeast Minnesota, and archival collections from businesses, organizations, and individuals.
Saint Louis County Historical Society
VAHS is an affiliate of SLCHS, whose headquarters is at the St. Louis County Heritage and Arts Center (Historic Union Depot in Duluth).

State history

Minnesota Historical Society
The state's premier historical organization manages dozens of sites across Minnesota and maintains the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul.

MDL is a digital archives with dozens of contributors, including libraries, colleges and universities, and historical societies.
